Serpentīnae Brings Satanic Awakening to the Masses

After spending years leading Satanic rituals at The Satanic Temple Headquarters and in locales around the world, Satanic Priestess Shiva Honey knew that she wanted to expand her infernal mission by creating a soundtrack for the sacred Satanic experience.

‘‘Music has always been a sacred experience for me. It’s a critical component of my ritual process,’ Shiva explains. ‘It is a powerful catalyst for healing and personal transformation, and I wanted to create music that awakens the listener’s inner magic and stirs revolution within them.”

And so, Serpentīnae was born.

In 2019, she partnered with Satanic Temple co-founder and Satanic Planet frontman Lucien Greaves and long-time collaborator Kyle Brume to put together the initial sketches of her full length record. In a world where music is available streaming everywhere at the click of a button, she defied convention by releasing her first EP Solve et Coagula in 2020 exclusively to backers of her Indiegogo campaign for her first book, The Devil’s Tome: A Book of Modern Satanic Ritual.

“I appreciate the wide availability of music now, but there’s something special about having a record that’s impossible to find. It’s in the occult tradition - like a little secret between you and the listener. That is the beauty of Solve et Coagula,” Shiva explains.

Three years later, after collaborating on Satanic Planet’s self-titled record, she is releasing her first full length volume of ritual music, Devotion: Ritual Music for Love, Loss & Desire. This is the first of a cycle of three records to accompany her award winning 2020 book, The Devil’s Tome: A Book of Modern Satanic Ritual. Each track corresponds to a ritual in her book that focuses on heart healing, finding love within and without, processing loss, and getting in touch with your desire.

An avid researcher, Shiva studied the science of music as she wrote and recorded Devotion and incorporated her research on its affect to mind, body, and emotion into the record.

“The songs on this record are carefully crafted spells designed to enchant the listener and help them transform their world,” Shiva explains.

And yes, there are secret messages hidden deep within the record.

“I wanted this record to incorporate the lore of occult music, backtracking and all.”

Shiva serves as the primary composer and instrumentalist on Devotion and has brought back Kyle Brume and Lucien Greaves to infuse the record with magic. The record also features The Infernal Chorus, a collection of Satanists adding their sacred invocations to the mix.

Devotion: Ritual Music for Love, Loss & Desire. soars through cinematic landscapes. Shiva’s haunting choral arrangements echo the beautiful longing of Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins, Clare Torry, and Bjork. Sensuous beats and arrangements evoke Portishead, Massive Attack, Jocelyn Pook, and Dead Can Dance, while industrial sludge brings an unwavering darkness.

Serpentīnae’s first single, Black Mass, was released on Unveiling Day, 6/25/23. Devotion: Ritual Music for Love, Loss & Desire. is being released as a limited edition of 666 copies pressed by Third Man Pressing in Detroit on 180 gram vinyl for an unparalleled listening experience. Each vinyl record is a work of art and ritual, with the sacred Devotion sigil pressed in gold on its cover and the record pressed in opaque gold. You can pre-order the album on her website.

Serpentīnae will perform live for the first time at their record release party, a surrealist ball co-produced by The Satanic Temple Detroit, on July 30th, at a secret sacred location in Detroit.

Incorporating raw, emotional, performance with interactive ritual, Serpentīnae aims for nothing less than a religious experience.
